HNCF Calls for Volunteers

Head & Neck Cancer Foundation Launches Supporter Wish List

The Head & Neck Cancer Foundation is a small UK-based registered charity that receives zero Government funding. The charity works tirelessly to help minimise the impact of surgery in the treatment of head and neck cancers. HNCF is 100% privately funded through the goodwill of its supporters, benefactors and Trustees.

During the pandemic the charity’s income fell dramatically, yet it continued its work and focused on education and awareness. For example, the charity’s ‘Get Mouthy at Home’ oral health check video has reached over 2.4 million people organically on Facebook alone – resulting in at least four people contacting the charity directly to thank them for saving their life through early self-diagnosis.

The charity has been funding research into innovative technology in the field of head, neck and oral cancer treatment. To date over 40 oncology teams have been provided with equipment and trained across the UK.

Michelle Vickers, CEO at Head & Neck Cancer Foundation says: “We are a small charity with big ambitions to make a difference. When people have traditional cancer treatments in the head and neck region this can lead to crippling impacts both physically and aesthetically. We champion the advancement of less invasive technologies and methods to help improve patient outcomes. We rely solely on donations of money, goodwill and time from our supporters. This year we want to increase our team and further bolster the work we do, so we have decided to launch a wish list of ways that anybody, anywhere can support our work and be part of fighting these aggressive and debilitating cancers.”

HNCF has big plans for 2022 and is calling for volunteers to donate help and support across the following functional areas:

Designers and Creatives – to help with fresh designs for greetings cards and merchandise.

Cyclists, Runners and Walkers – to participate in our large, organised fundraising events such as London to Brighton or the Great North Run amongst others. We’re also looking for stewards to help with logistics at these live events.

Local Champions – to organise smaller scale fundraising events such as car boots, sponsored walks, cake bakes and charity sales. These events are lots of fun and not only raise funds and awareness for us, but they also bring communities together.

Administrators and Researchers – to help with ad-hoc desk-based projects to support our marketing, fundraising, PR and brand team. These will be across a wide spectrum of areas and will require a good level of PC and internet literacy.

Grant and Finance Experts – to assist with the research and identification of grants that we may apply for. This role will involve working directly with the CEO to write and submit applications for funding.

Awards Expert – to assist in the research, identification and entry of relevant award schemes. This role will involve working directly with the team at the charity’s PR partner Mandate Creative.

If you wish to donate time, money or resource to support HNCF’s work this year please contact HNCF@WeAreMandate.co.uk in the first instance.
