Our CEO Receives Prestigious ‘Amazing Women Award’ 2021

Michelle Vickers awarded by Woman & Home magazine as ‘Smashing The Glass Ceiling’ category winner

The Head & Neck Cancer Foundation (HNCF) announces that its CEO, Michelle Vickers has won this year’s Women & Home Amazing Women Award for Smashing the Glass Ceiling. The annual award recognises the achievements of women whose inspirational work pushes boundaries, changes lives, and improves our world.

Michelle Vickers, CEO of HNCF comments: “This fantastic award means more to me than I imagined it would. I’ve been reflecting on my improbable journey and taking the time to acknowledge my achievements fully. I am really proud of myself. I am overwhelmed by the feedback I have received from colleagues past and present, I have had amazing support from very special women on my journey and some pretty fabulous men. This last year has been challenging for us as a charity as I know it has been for many charities. I am proud that we were so fluid and reactive and were able to continue in our mission to raise awareness, fundraise and offer support for those impacted by head and neck cancers.”

Despite the reduction in donations, Michelle took the charity through rough waters and pivoted quickly to focus on raising awareness of head and neck cancers through numerous social media and press campaigns. The exposure from these campaigns means that millions have been educated on life-saving information regarding these types of cancers, how to spot them and the types of treatments available. In the latter half of the year, she has also called upon the charity’s supporters to assist with fundraising and assembled two teams to take on the London Landmarks Half Marathon and the London to Brighton cycle.

Professor Mark McGurk, Co-Founder and Trustee of the charity comments: “We are so proud for our CEO to have been awarded an Amazing Women Award, and rightly so! This is a testament to the amazing work that she does to drive the operations of the charity, and ultimately the lives that she is saving by being so devoted to her work.”
